Digital citation management tools can relieve scholars from the arduous task of manually typing and reformatting citations. Despite this apparent benefit of automating the citation process, my study revealed a relatively low use of citation managers across disciplines. While academics actively use digital tools to find research materials, they rely less frequently on those tools for creating bibliographic citations.
